A couple Fridays ago, we caught 20/20’s segment testing the integrity of several Manhattan dry cleaners. We were pleased to see our friend Debra Kravet from Apthorp Cleaners interviewed, but disappointed in the behaviors exhibited by some of the other area cleaners.
We may literally have dirty laundry here at Sudsies, but we have a clean conscious when it comes to our cleaning standards and respect for our customers.
You can see the full segment here (as well as a solid myth-busting and solutions slideshow from Debra), but as a valued client, we thought we owed it to you to address some of these issues ourselves and provide some assurances.
Icky Discovery One: Scummy Solvent
We too were disturbed by the murky solvents that some cleaners allow to build up and mingle with clothes. So we wanted to be very clear in emphasizing our state-of-the-art equipment and standards. This includes DF 2000 Hydrocarbon cleaning solvent, which is not only garment-friendly, but environmentally-friendly. However, clean and clear solvent isn’t even enough for us; we have separate machines dedicated to whites only to avoid contact with discolorations of ANY kind.
Icky Discovery Two: No Work for the Jerk
Sure, we love an exchange of all smiles, but sometimes we make mistakes. Sudsies’ number one value proposition is making our customers happy. Great relationships are based on honesty, so if we somehow do fail to meet your expectations, please don’t hesitate to let us know so we can turn the experience around into a positive one for you.
Icky Discovery Three: Stains Tell All
We consider ourselves stain doctors. Each garment is handled with the utmost professionalism and confidentiality.
Icky Discovery Four: Gender Bias
Like our children, we love and treat Sudsies customers all the same. Our prices are based upon the material type, cleaning required, and construction of the garment. All of this affects the amount of time to process, which can be sometimes more for particularly delicate or intricate clothing.
Icky Discovery Five: Sticky Fingers
Our team has built a strong culture that values integrity. We’ve discovered valuables of all sorts left in pockets, which is why we’re created specialty bags called “Sudsies Safe & Secure.” Here, watches, jewelry, money, licenses, and all other important items have a temporary home, while we clean the clothing and return them to their rightful owner.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or comments about our services. We do agree with the segment in that the dry cleaner/customer relationship is a personal one and we look forward to making your experience tailored and satisfactory as possible..
